The Queen's Hamlet is such a peculiar and interesting place. Ordered by Marie-Antoinette in 1783, it was built for the queen's pleasure as a retreat from the court. The Hamlet might be an idealised image of the rustic life, the different buildings still are stunning and the stroll is worth it.

This whole complex looks like a Disney fairy tale village. We completely fell in love with the beautiful architecture of all the buildings. But perhaps the most lovely of all is the Hamlet by the lake, which is a trademark of the whole area.

I love walking between these old houses. The place has had some restorations in the past few years, well worth the extra time and cost.

Definitely a must see if you visit the Palace of Versailles. Located just a little walk away from the Gardens, near the petit Trianon, the Hamlet is a gem! It reminded me of the 7 dwarves, with its tiny cottages and ponds and animal farm. You can even stop for a pick nick or a read or a stroll on the grass, it’s very quiet and rather sheltered from the crowds in the main touristic areas of the Palace.
