Looking at it from the outside, you can't help but marvel at the greatness and grandeur of this church! It has all the attributes to be able to be compared to the great Gothic cathedrals! It is also similar to a fortified fortress, with massive walls and battlements. The hull of the ship has an amazing height!

The collegiate church was founded in 1022 by Robert the Pious, only the crypt has survived. The church has at least seven doors including the royal portal, the tympanum is dedicated to the representation of the Ascension of Christ. The six statues-columns present many analogies with those of the western portal of the cathedral of Chartres, in particular in the drapes. The construction campaigns for the collegiate church took place between 1130 and 1210. Work began with the first three spans of the nave, the transept and the lower level of the bell tower-porch between 1130 and 1140. The upper level and the spire of the bell tower , the nave and the choir were built between 1140 and 1150. The doubling of the transepts and side aisles and the establishment of new chapels took place between 1150 and 1180. The construction of the front section of the facade dates from the beginning of the 13th century. Numerous restorations took place during the 19th century, the architect Pierre Magne was responsible for renovating the nave and the crossing of the transept.
