Church of St. Gilles

Beautiful architecture, very cosy and quiet.

The Saint-Gilles church is a parish church of Catholic worship, dedicated to Saint-Gilles. A first church was built in 1123 during the creation of the square hosting the wheat market instituted by Louis VI le Gros, in order to establish a link between the northern and southern parts of the town of Etampes. In the 13th century, a new church was built, of which the nave, the entrance pillars and the transept piles remain. At the end of this century, the bell tower was added which supports the cross tower in Romanesque style. In the 15th century, the choir was rebuilt with a flat apse in a flamboyant Gothic style. In 1547 were added the side aisles and side chapels, the sculpted keystones. On June 10, 1944, the district was bombarded by the allies. Much of the church needs to be rebuilt.

Beautiful organ

Beautiful religious building, it is essential to visit the interior of this beautiful church 💒 It is really very beautiful, the heart of the nave is worth the detour as well as the set of stained glass windows. Not too much gilding is actually quite clean and it's very good like that. The organ and all the ensemble that composes it has been redone thanks to several donors. A place that invites to tranquility and reflection.
