Thank you to the staff, they are very welcoming
Home pretty good
Thank you Mrs. La Maire for your flowery welcome.
Erudite motorhome operator delighted with this city and the parking lot.
We will return with pleasure.
Pontivy, the name meant something to me. Although having lived in Brittany for 14 years, I had never set foot in this city. But the name resonated with me. I stopped there twice in July. I took the time to walk in this beautiful city, to walk along the banks of the Blavet. To walk through these streets and alleys. Facing the Plain, a former maneuvering ground, I recognize buildings from a former cavalry district (barracks for the Biffins). Former Cavalry NCO and above all very curious, I approach the walls and I discover the plaque attached to the wall near the old door. "By August 04, 1914, the 2nd Regiment of Chasseurs à cheval left for the great war" It was a great emotion to find yourself in the footsteps of its glorious Ancients. Because I served for 6 years from 1982 to 1988, in the 2nd Chasseurs Regiment in Verdun (Thierville sur Meuse). On our regimental badge there are 2 Hermines Bretonnes in memory of the stay in Pontivy from 1886 to 1927, beautiful stay! And above all, beautiful emotion.
This badge was adopted (between 1970 and 1972) after the re-creation of the regiment in Orange in 1964 (with a first badge representing a lyon passing sand on a shield left Gules and Vert as a reminder of the hunters of Flanders) and its relocation to Verdun in 1967.
"Ancient shield of gules charged with two Hungarian sabers in saltire broaching a silver bishop's crook. In point over-broaching the whole crescent of the same.
On a head Vert with two ermines Sable and number 2 of silver supported by a banner of the same the motto: IN UTROQUE TREMENDUS.
Badge approved under number G 2263.
The two saltire sabers are so-called Montmorency sabers, Colonel de Montmorency-Laval being Camp Mestre when the regiment became Régiment de Chasseurs à Cheval in 1788 and when the Emperor confirmed the exclusive privilege of the 2nd Chasseurs to carry this saber conquered by the regiment during the Battle of Calcinato in Italy during the War of the Spanish Succession.
The episcopal stick (unfortunately turned upside down: it is in fact here an abbot's stick) recalls the title "Chasseurs des Evêchés (Verdun, Toul and Metz)" worn from 1788 to 1791.
The chief ermines recall the last stationing of the 2e Régiment de Chasseurs in Pontivy before its dissolution in 1927.
The crescent at the bottom of the badge is a discreet evocation of the 2nd Chasseurs d'Afrique, which formed the bulk of the regiment's supervision when it was recreated in Orange with the 11th Cuirassiers in 1964.
In utroque tremendus (He is feared everywhere)
Motto of the dragons of Custine, adopted during the creation of the current badge in 1970-72 (colonel Poisson).
And by Saint Georges, Long live the Cavalry!
P.S there is a great shop, it is: 6 rue du Fil, it's Trady Breizh - Plaisirs et Traditions. Store of Breton products which are eaten who drink which are worn. A real joy. Warm welcome and above all wise advice. Thank you. Go there without hesitation.
Service planning very attentive. Congratulations and thank you for your professionalism.
