Reviews
I went there today after having previously made an appointment in person. As I was not familiar with the layout of the hospital, I had gone directly to radiology to do it but that did not seem to be a problem. At the time of doing this, I had presented the prescription (with a copy available). Today I showed up to the hospital and was greeted by two cranky people in white coats guarding the entrance. They did not show up but asked if I had an appointment. When I said yes, I was asked the same question several times. I was happy to speak in French but she insisted on doing it in poor English. I felt she was rude, disrespectful and making a point. I was finally allowed to take a ticket and wait. The sign directed me to one of the three wickets. I was informed, again grumpy, that while waiting for my Carte Vitale, I would have to pay. She made a big deal if that, but for me it wasn't a big deal as I was perfectly happy to self-fund the exam at that time. I was then told to go for radiology. Besides the unwelcoming attitude of the staff, it raises the question of why this wasteful system exists. There seem to be roles invented for hospital staff. When they got to the radiology department, they asked for the prescription that I had presented in person at the time of the initial appointment. I did not know that I would have to present it again because they had had ample opportunity to take the carbon copy or the original provided when making the appointment. In the end, I couldn't be bothered to make another appointment. I have been told that the healthcare system in France is good, but this and other personal experiences lead me to believe it is not. I believe I am capable of passing such judgment as I am a retired British doctor.
P.S.
I wrote a letter to the hospital administration outlining my concerns. I did not receive any answer. I think this represents a complete failure of the hospital management team and its clinical governance.
Arrival at the emergency room for mosquito bites, inflamed, very extensive about 15 cm by 7, very swollen.
Greeted by a very pleasant nurse.
The person before me comes out, I wait 20 min, nobody and there I realize that the 2 doctors were on their cellphones. Bravo, exasperated I left without having seen them. If necessary I have the photo.

The Saint-Jean-d'Angély hospital provides local care for the population with certain areas of excellence.
Some specialties are available in coordination with the CH Saintonge.
Ophthalmology visit spent on a private visit without having been notified except at the end of the consultation… not very nice. With Mr Gicquel.
