It is thanks to the action of Paul Belmondo (the sculptor, father of Jean-Paul Belmondo), the mayor of Barentin at the time, André Marie, and Gérard Oury that this statue was installed on August 21, 1969 on a square. It was moved on September 28, 1973 on the Mesnil-Roux plateau, thus dominating the new extension of the city and it is since April 2, 1990 that it has been in the middle of the Liberty roundabout. After several months of absence to participate in the Armada in June 2019 and get a makeover, the statue has returned to its plinth. It has undergone a strengthening of its structure to be presented on the quays of Rouen. Then it was reassembled, cleaned and covered with a first protective paint then repainted. A new color that did not meet with everyone.
