Chemins d'Histoire Battlefield Tours

We are three Canadian couples who recently did a two-day tour with Olivier of the Canadian WW1 sites around Arras and Ypres. Olivier was an exceptional guide. He was extremely knowledgeable of the WW1 history for this area, especially with respect to the Canadian experience. His itinerary was perfect and he covered all of the sites that were of interest to us. He made every effort (via maps etc.) to help us understand how the war progressed through 1914-1918. In addition, he was very respectful of the different viewpoints of the combatants. His vehicle was comfortable. I would recommend his services without reservation.

Olivier was an extremely knowledgeable and engaging tour guide. Our group consisted of only Australians, and Olivier tailored the tour accordingly, starting at the cemetery and war memorial at Villers-Brettoneux, and working our way across the Somme Valley, through Hamel and Pozieres. His explanation of the movement of the front lines between the Imperial and German forces between mid-July 2016 to 2018 was very well explained. The tour included many of the most historical sites in the region, often travelling roads that more of less followed the front lines at various times of the war. Olivier went “above and beyond” by locating the war grave of a relative of one person in our tour group, located in the South African cemetery at Delville Wood, which is off the beaten track a bit and not normally associated with the Australian campaign. Olivier treated this moment with respect and dignity. The tour ended with the added bonus of visiting the preserved trenches at Newfoundland (Canadian site). I highly recommend this tour, and would gladly do it again under Olivier’s guidance. Unreservedly 5 stars.

Oliver was an amazing tour guide. To start our train from Paris was cancelled - he adjusted the tour to start later (other two guests were also on cancelled train). Only 4 in total on the tour. Very knowledgeable, and adjusted tour to suit us. Would highly recommend! I did this tour with my partner who is a fanatic - me not so much, but I still greatly enjoyed!

Olivier was meticulous in preparing information and visits that were personalised to each guest. His depth of knowledge about World War 1 is amazing, and he explains it so well. Would highly recommend and would participate again when visiting France in the future.
