Wonderful collection and curation.
Many thanks to the people who decide to put a mirror under one Monde sculpture.
From this I felt that the curator put incredible consideration on audiences and also how she/he appreciates the work. :)
Probably one of the best museum in France. If by any chance you come visit Strasbourg and visit the cathedral, this museum is a must to explore. There are several reason to that: 1) the museum is just in front of the cathedral, so visiting the cathedral and then the museum gives meaningful insights and a fantastic perspective on the monument. 2) a series of original sculptures of the Strasbourg's cathedral can be seen from close by. Sculptures that are several meters above the ground, and it is unique to be able to see them, admire the artist work from such a close view. 3) There is a series of exceptional paintings from the middle-age and the Renaissance. Go see Sebastian Stoskopff's still life paintings with glasses, both subject and painting technique are wonderful.
A completely random find while we were in Strasbourg, and one of the best memories from our trip! A really wonderful collection of carvings, stained glass, furniture, paintings, you name it, chronicling the never-ending history of Strasbourg and it's cathedral. I almost don't want to give it 5 stars because it felt like our secret the day we were there - only a handful of patrons were in the museum, so you were never elbowing people out of the way to see anything. I have to say that I enjoyed the first half of the museum (more carvings) than the back half (more furniture), but overall it was a really unique experience that I won't be quick to forget - mostly because I took a million photos that I'm still going through a month after our visit!
If you visit Strasbourg I would recommend visiting this place
A glorious collection of medieval and Renaissance art in an historic building. Everything is very well presented, with very helpful audio and other guides. The temporary exhibition was brilliantly designed too.
