I came here a few years ago and showed this wonderful bookstore to my daughter. She just loved it! I bought a copy of F Scott Fitzgerald’s biography. This is a great store to visit and enjoy the ambiance. Very cozy and comfortable! A must see when visiting Paris ❣️🇫🇷

The famous bookstore Shakespeare and Company at 37 Rue de la Bûcherie. The American Sylvia Beach started a small bookstore in 1919 that sold English-language literature in Paris. She is best known for being the first to publish James Joyce's controversial novel Odysseus in 1922. When the Germans invaded Paris in 1940, Sylvia Beach was imprisoned and the bookstore was destroyed. Today's bookstore was opened in 1951 by George Whitman. In 1964, the bookstore changed its name to Shakespeare and Company in honor of Sylvia Beach's original bookstore. Today, in addition to lots of literature, you will also find Sylvia Beach's own book collection, which is not for sale but anyone is welcome to read the books during the store's opening hours. The bookstore has for several years been a gathering place for those interested in literature and authors have also been able to live here. On the third floor are several beds ... The bookstore Shakespeare and Company appears in the films Before Sunset (2004) and Midnight in Paris (2011).

Very nice English bookshop! Its quirky rooms and crooked bookshelves make you feel somewhere halfway between the worlds of Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland. There are great choices of both English classics and modern litterature, and all other genres. The second floor offers some room to stay and read in a cosy and sheltered atmosphere. I really enjoyed it.

Amazing English bookstore in Paris. We parked at the One Park nearby (19 Rue Lagrange, 75005 Paris, Franceand) it was very convenient to walk to the store from there. It was cozy on a rainy day and the service was exceptional.

The cozy bookstore found on the banks of the seine is one of the most inspirational places in town. There is a beautiful variety of literature and wonderful additions to the library, like a piano, the friendly cat, and the beautiful dog. If you want to go to an inspiring warm bookstore, this is the one!
