What a good surprise, I visited this museum even if I'm not really keen on this period of history. I was agreably surprised by how this place tackle the topic, the museum is well organized and we can dive in the subject from different angles, the diversity of media makes the museum interesting for a wide range of ages. You can come with your family! The entrance ticket gives you access to the museum for the day so feel free to go out and picnic around and come back after

Interesting museum with an impressive collection of material to illustrate the drama of the First World War. However, ignorant towards the involvement of Eastern Europe, including Poland. And too politically correct towards the role of Germany. A very French view.....

This place deserves a praise. Well put together WW1's materials, comprehensively outstanding! highly recommended to visit, just 15 minutes from Disneyland.

Deep in the Pays de Meaux, this museum of history and society was built back in 2011 on the historical site of the first Battle of the Marne, 3 km from Meaux town centre. The museum owes its existence to a meeting between Jean-François Copé, President of the Pays de Meaux Urban Area Community, and Jean-Pierre Verney, a historian who had spent more than forty years collecting nearly 50,000 objects and documents from all over the world to relate the history of World War I. It is this collection, unique in Eu- rope, that you will have the chance to discover during your visit. At the Musée de la Grande Guerre du Pays de Meaux, learn about what no one should ever have had to go through.

This is a well organised museum of war I've visited in France that has one of the biggest collections of WWI. It's walkable from the city or bus lines 8 & 11 service this area, close to the hospital and the cemetery of Meaux. It costs €10 to enter and really worth it. At the entrance hall there's a museum café and the ticket office on level one. There's a luggage storage facility (€1 to use) public lavatory, wheelchairs and walking frame available. It's really worth taking the time to explore this huge collection of nearly 65 thousand items. You can take a break for refreshments and re-enter the museum with the same ticket. When I visited there were at least three different groups of school children visiting the museum and they seemed to be enjoying it so it's suitable for all ages. It's a bit out of the city centre but really worth visiting. Nearest bus stop about a couple of minutes walk to the museum and there's a public parking opposite the main entrance. Highly recommended for its detailed collection and very friendly and approachable staffs. A real gem of Meaux.
