If you absolutely must use the Bristol Airport AVIS, then my recommendations are:
1) Do no accept any changes (free upgrades ect) to your original booking.
2) Be sure to thoroughly check both the outside and also the inside the car for any scratches. In particular, check the narrow edges where the doors meet the car panels.
I booked a Fiat 500. On arrival, I was given the 'free upgrade' to a Renault Clio. A week after returning the Renault Clio, I recieved a bill for 427 Euro in the post, accompanied with a photo of a blue car with a scratch on the inside of the door. Unfortunately I had missed this scratch when doing the original inspection on pickup. AVIS proceeded to put the 427 euro charge against my bank current account despite it still being an ongoing dispute. I can only assume that this 'free upgrade' is some sort of joke. Regardless, 427 euro for 5cm scratch is extortionate.
3)Be extremely careful if renting from here.
Finally, when trying to raise this issue further by way of following the offical procedure on the AVIS customer service website, the only response that I have recieved from the AVIS staff members is to instead use the AVIS social platforms to raise this issue via DM messages.
Easy pick up, friendly staff, new and clean cars, very easy return and the quick shuttle bus is a bonus!

Very bad customer service.. i receive a faulty car... then they charged me for road assistance.. each time I called them they said they need to review everything and call me back and they never did. Very very bad. I was Avis customer for few years... never again
Wasn't run through the faults with the van I hired and the paperwork did not match the vehicle condition. Be careful with these guys!
I wouldn't recommnend this company. The rent fee was relatively cheap since I paid 42 GBP for 2 days rental. But then they charged me 101 GBP for a scratch on the left wheel which supposedly was not damaged before. Watch out for the tyres and rims, because it is the easiest way for them to rip you off. I see that the guy from Spain in the comments below had exact the same situation.
