Whilst the lovely Hatfield House remains closed, we went for a ‘Weekend Winter Walk’ around Hatfield Park. Tickets need to be purchased in advance and are £10 per person. Parking is free and supervised.
There are three official routes of varying lengths to choose from; a mixture of hard surfaces and dirt paths. Definitely worth bringing proper walking boots as the paths are very muddy in places.
The grounds are vast and varied; definitely worth a visit. Nevertheless, I would have preferred more of a Christmas effort as there was little to see at Stable Yard.
Great location for a day out. The gardens are beautiful and it’s a lovely walk. Woods, lake and green areas to explore. Great for kids or dog walking. The court yard by the main house has lovely little shops and a great cafe and restaurant (albeit a little expensive). You can get your ticket to the garden stamped for full access to the gardens all season for no extra charge.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a mini-village of cafes and shops on arrival in the grounds beside the car park.
We spent two hours walking the grounds. I recommend wearing wellies in the Autumn as many sign-posted walks were quite muddy.
It’s dog friendly and parking was more than ample, but we did turn up early on a Sunday.
We will visit again :)
Lovely place to go for a walk in the massive park. Lots of paved paths and then smaller dirt paths into the forest. Incredibly accessible place but beware nowhere to sit down inside the park. The background traffic from the busy road on one side spoils the nature a bit. Price maybe a bit steep, £10 just to access the park. Cafe and shops are great and very cozy and you can sit outside. Shops are all before you enter the park. Secure well organised parking. Worth spending the day here.
Beautiful, classic parkland to explore down to the river. A gorgeous house with formal gardens which I'll have to go back to another time. The stable area with little independent shops (art workshops, gifts and jewellery etc) is lovely. The coffee shop was lovely when I went a year or so ago but seemed a bit empty yesterday. Not sure why, still a lovely place to sit and chatter. Beautiful place for a walk.
