very poor customer service, staff are not really willing to help with customers problems or concerns. Their contracts are full of little sections which will eventually screw you over, if customers are short on rent even for a week they are constantly hounded by staff and even have their locks on the rooms changed whilst away (Ty Glyn Studios). As for houses, customers will have to pay half rent for the summer and not even be allowed to live in the property. Overall the companies tactics and neglect of its customers lead to many customers paying lots of extra money for things they should not have to pay for. absolutely terrible company.
Whilst staff are friendly. Issues with the property, such as windows not opening, mould and water damage, remain unfixed even when complaints have been made to staff and landlord. There were supposed to people coming round to fix these issues, however they did not show up, this has happened twice now. I appreciate we are in a pandemic, however these are potentially health provoking issues that need addressing. As a result of Covid our property was supposed to be deep cleaned prior to us moving in. However on move in, it was evident the property where not cleaned at all, with carpets remaining filthy, cobwebs and dust everywhere, in fact we were forced to do this ourselves.
Varcity Living, are supposed to be a student property management company. See visible evidence with more reviews from "hoodies" from their actual letting business. From this, you would expect that they are an established business, who take care and great responsibility when housing students. I can ensure you that this couldn't be more false. I was more than excited to move into my new student home in which I paid a large sum of money to cover the deposit. Due to unseen circumstances around the beginning of the COVID period, I left my University both for family concerns, and mental health issues. Regardless of Varcity informing me that once I provided evidence of this I would be released from the contract; my evidence was deemed "insufficient". As I stated prior, they are a student property management cpmpany, so what gives them the right to determine wether I am "ill enough" or "ill for a required amount of time" is extremely abhorrent and unclear to me.
This escalated further and further involving local, and not local MP's -who very generously took our side through this fight for my unwritten rights- eventually concluding with me paying thousands for a house that I am not living in and have advertised online for months with no assistance from themselves. I now have to receive extra support from Student Finance England, and my University to help me recover from the extensive debt that this company have left me in whilst pursuing my studies for a Bsc.
Although no doubt they will reply to my review with what seems to be a reasonable response; I stand by that this company lacks compassion, integrity, and manners with no right to deem themselves a "student property management". If you are thinking of using Varcity, my email is open for any queries you might have about my personal experience, the University also is very aware of their reputation, and finally many many students who have experienced the same situation which you can find floating around many other review pages will also assumably be happy to comment.
Best of luck with your search for the right student property management company. Choose very carefully.
