Tŷ Newydd Writer's Centre

Absolutely amazing experience at Ty Newydd. I came here for a week on creative writing and I was smiling for every second. The tutors, Valerie Bloom and Eloise Williams, were so good. They ran phenomenal workshops in the morning and had some really interesting activities that were fun, but engaged the brain as well, such as recalling a dream to use as a basis for a poem. They also sat in the library during the afternoon and offered help with writing. I also really enjoyed reading Gaslight, which is a novel written by Eloise Williams. My room was really clean and spacious, I stayed in room one, which had large, picturesque windows facing the front drive. The bathroom was a bit small but nice and clean. My only complaint is that the shower was tiny. The location was perfect. This old, country house is on a small hill offering spectacular views of the coast. There is a beach and a castle nearby. Another highlight was the food. I would like to say thank you to Tony for cooking amazing food for the five days I was there. My favourite dish was the Thai sweet potato curry. The attention to detail was amazing, it was my birthday on the last day and they realised that a four hour bus ride wouldn’t be a very nice birthday. Instead, on the day before my birthday, Tony, the amazing cook, baked me a cake and Valerie, who was one of the tutors, wrote me a poem, which I really enjoyed reading. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here and I would highly recommend you to come to Ty Newydd for a writing trip.
