Shame I have to give them 1 star! Lie about prices, lie about cover. One big scam! Avoid

I took out car insurance for my classic car two days before it was needed. In those first two days I had no communication requesting any form of clarification regarding the details I had given. On the day my car insurance started I received a text from Sterling saying I needed to call them otherwise my insurance may become invalid. When I called Sterling I was asked to clarify where I would be keeping my car overnight. On the online form I stated 'garage' as all the other options, such as on-street parking, driveway, work address etc did not accurayy match where my car is parked; my car has an allocated parking space in secure underground parking beneath my apartment block. When I told this fact Sterling said I had not been truthful and the insurance would increase from £156 to £280. Due to the size of the increase I stated that I was no longer interested. Sterling made me pay £53 to cancel my car insurance. I asked why Sterling had waited 48 hrs before texting me to discuss the online application. They were unable to give me any response. I had completed their form in good faith and with the options regarding where the vehicle is kept overnight offered on the form I chose the one closest to my situation. My car is not left on a driveway or on a public street. It is kept securely in a locked area which requires you to go through two locked gates before entry. Sterling were quick enough to take my money but rather slow on checking through my online form. Instead I went to Admiral Insurance, whose online application form is much more comprehensive. Be careful of these very cheap offers from insurance companies such as Sterling. There is often a catch in the offer!
