Apparently Elmstead Wood is the highest rated woodland in London according to TripAdvisor. So being only 15 minutes drive from where I live I thought I should pay a visit. It's pleasant enough, but nothing outstanding. Difficult to park a car, as far as I could tell there is no nearby parking so it has to be on a nearby street. It's not that big so most of the time you can see through the trees to houses and other indicators of humanity. Also unfortunately on the day we visited young locals were trying out their new quad and off road motorcycles that I guess they had got for Christmas. In my view Oxleas, Severndroog are still the finest woodlands in SE London.
