Bit of a strange car park. The machine wasn't working and was jammed full of coins and wouldn't accept anything. Fortunately the machine had a sign on that said 'Pay by card at the Royal Lodge'. So I popped up to the hotel and mentioned that the machine the machine wasn't working to be told very abruptly 'That's not our machine!'. Oh okay but it's not taking coins anyway I said, to be told again 'It's not our machine!'. Felt like they were trying to absolve them of all responsibility and coming across as pretty rude. Shame as Symonds Yat is absolutely stunning.

The guy who owns this place really, really loves signs. Every sentence starts 'don't', 'no' or 'do not'. Very unwelcoming introduction to Symonds Yat. Not sure how you would legally enforce a £60 fine for failing to park close enough to next car when cars come and go - how do you tell which one caused the issue and who judges close when it's left as a subjective rather than absolute value? Would be interested to see that tested in a POPLA case (parking on private land appeals - if you get a fine look that up as an option). One star because we got a space and no stars is not an option.

9th July 2019 3PM Paddled down river from Kerne Bridge Moored at Saracens Head for a bite to eat. Rang son to collect me and put canoe on car. Son arrives and pays £4 to park in New Weir Car Park. Carry canoe to from Saracens Head to car park, start loading canoe and then approached by man in mid- late 20’s claiming to own the car park asking why I had not used the canoe facilities up stream and swearing about canoeists, F this and that, and warned that I’m on CCTV. and if i didn't leave in 2 minutes he was going to drag me off the car park. His first question should have been , have you paid the car park fee ? Lesson learnt !

PEOPLE, CANOE AND KAYAKERS BEWARE! We parked up, paid an extortionate fee for parking and walked to the saracens head (a lovely pub by the way). I met my parents at the pub , had a drink and walked back to the car. My parents had canoed down from kern bridge and waited at the pub for us. As we loaded the car up , a gentleman who’d been working at the front of the lodge hotel came over asking why we werent using facilities further up. We explained that we had paid our car park fee, gone for a drink and then moved the canoe from the launch point in front of the pub, to the roof of the car. At this point he started swearing , threatening us and telling us to ‘get off my land’ and we had two minutes before we’d be ‘dragged off’, whilst threatening to ban ‘canoers’. We were startled but fortunately we’d tied the boat on the car and managed to get out of there ,just as other people from the hotel were coming across the car park trying to stop us from leaving . We weren’t offered reimbursement for the ticket which had nearly 3hours left on it . All-in-all, if avoid this place as this isn’t the typical behaviour I’d expect from a fellow ‘human’ or behaviour I think is acceptable.
