Beware rip-off extra fees. I have usually rented with Practical in Tunbridge Wells before but as Europcar Tonbridge were cheaper for a week-long hire, I decided to try them out. Big mistake. I was sneakily (with no notice) charged an addition £60 for 'valet cleaning' of a car that I hired for a week and did less than 60 miles in. They said the car must be returned 'ready to hire'. This despite the fact that the car stank of cigarette smoke when I picked it up! This place must make all its money on cleaning fees, not rental.

DO NOT RENT A CAR OUT OF HOURS I rented a car from the Europcar Tonbridge office which I had to return on a Sunday when the office is shut. The drop off location was just off the street where anyone could walk up to it. I was not clearly informed that I was fully liable for anything that happened to the car until it was checked in the next day. 2 weeks later I received a bill for approx £400 for damage to the car caused after I had dropped it off. I challenged this claim as it looks like criminal damage (like a key taken to the bumper causing a straight 150+ cm scratch), however, Europcar and the regulator BVRLA say I signed a contract accepting full liability. If you have to rent a car out of hours from them MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PHOTOS OF THE ENTIRE CAR and email them to them immediately. I cannot afford the damage claim and am now in my overdraft. I do not want any other unsuspecting customers to end up in the same position as me. Both Europcar and the BVRLA have ignored my plea to make the drop off location more secure.
