It's a world away from current cares and concerns. It's a great place for the family to come and marvel at past achievements. Despite today's issues I'm pleased not to have lived at the time of Elizabeth I. Sanitary arrangements for a start have to be seen to be believed - 'look upwards before you do your business'!

Castle and grounds are good however our visit was spoilt by the staff, litter and lack of toilets.

Beautiful castle, social distancing well. Lovely lady called Eleanor gave us a very informative talk. Dog friendly. 2 choices of gluten free cakes available 👍 Cafe open to buy cakes, drink, sandwiches etc. then eat outside where there was lots of distanced seating. A BBQ was available too, a great place for a great day out. Thank you x

Very imposing ruined castle as we drove up. We’d picked here because dogs are allowed and wanted a stop on our way to visit family. Lots of ruins to explore. We downloaded the audio before and listened as we went round, luckily it’s all numbered as the current one way system means you do it out of order. There was heavy rain while we were their so the little indoor boards area was a good place to have a reprieve and find out more about the history.

Visited today with my daughter for a lovely Christmas trail. The weather was fine, the castle all outdoors is beautiful. We loved the trail with interesting historical facts and hunting Christmas wreaths. We finished the visit with a marvellous luxury hot chocolate with marshmallows, cream and a flake from the cafe in the grounds stables. A great winter pre-Christmas treat.
