Great place with interesting Viking story. The fact that high tide blocks the passage makes it even more interesting. Loved it!

Friendly staff. Long walk up hedge-enclosed drive before reaching the house and beginning of footpath. On this occasion the footpath was being renovated so one couldn't walk in a full circle around the island. It was a hot day and we had young children with us - fewer birds around to see at this time of year.

Lovely walk over causeway and on to island. Great for spring birds and watching the creeping tide

Within easy walking distance of Maldon town centre or Promenade park - worth noting however that access to the island is by appointment only, so you will need to ring ahead to obtain a permit if you wish to explore the island itself. Site of the battle of Maldon and a real treat if you are a bird watcher.

A little slice of heaven, perched upon the edge of land and sea.
