A surprising and fascinating collection of furniture, especially from the Arts and Crafts era. Inspiring for our times. The 20th-century ceramics were being redisplayed when I visited, but what I could glimpse looked good too. (I didn't have time to see the paintings galleries this time.) Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, lovely coffee shop. Next door is the craft guild shop, if the museum exhibits set your credit card vibrating in your wallet. I was more inspired by the slogan on some of the museum shop merchandise : Make Time for Making.

This is a great regional museum and gallery with nationally important collections, most notably on the Arts and Crafts movement. It is staged by fantastically enthusiastic staff and volunteers who really know their stuff. Great combination of quirky local content and modern curated art collections. A highlight is the open access archive.

Very well maintained art exhibition centre which also houses the Cheltenham Tourist Information Centre (TIC). Unless you look closely through the front doors, one may not notice the TIC. Andrew and Jake at the TIC were very patient and helpful in answering questions. Andrew gave bus timetable, suggested sights and eating houses. Thank you, Andrew and Jake. The art exhibition was impressive for the Cotswold history it gave insights into. All of this, when it was not tourist season, there were unexpected rains coupled with the arctic winds bringing in cold weather and snow warning for parts of Western Cotswolds and adjoining Wales. These memories make Cheltenham a place worth revisiting

I love this museum. It's a great place to wander around and take a cultural break. It has a collection of beautiful Arts and Crafts furniture, a variety of historical exhibits on Cheltenham and it's history and a interesting and moving exhibit on Edward Wilson and his Antarctic expedition with Captain Scott. It also has interesting guest exhibitions and a lovely cafe. The adjoining shop, The Guild at 51, is full of gorgeous pieces (jewellery, gift cards, glass ware, pottery..) by artists of Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen. Both well worth a visit!
