Pryers Kakes made my wedding cake this week and it was absolutely delicious! Not only that, it looked beautiful. So many cakes look pretty but taste awful, but this one was brilliant and expertly iced. Thank you for your hard work.

We had an unfortunate experience with Pryers in that we requested that they ice a 3-tier wedding cake for our daughter's wedding, which we had made to a traditional recipe, which produced a moist cake. We made 4 cakes to the same recipe and retained one for Christmas. Pryers requested delivery of the completed cakes by July before the December wedding, we presumed, to be kept in controlled conditions to be preserved and fully conditioned prior to icing. Two weeks before collection was due, Pryers informed us that the top tier 'had a disaster' and was undercooked, which was difficult to believe as our own version on close examination was in perfect condition. We inspected the top 'failed' tier and realised that it had been 'fed' with additional alcohol without our knowledge, which had effectively saturated the fruit cake. Pryers then, quickly baked a replacement, dry fruit cake and iced the whole at a significant additional cost, which we then collected and took to Yorkshire for the wedding. Subsequently after the event, we attempted to cut the third and largest tier and found that it too was soggy with additional alcohol, the regular holes in its surface evidence of that. The cake proved impossible to cut cleanly and attempting to remove it from the supporting cardboard implanted by Pryers, the centre virtually sagged out of the iced framework. The cake we had retained remained in perfect condition and had to be iced to replace the disastrous wedding cake itself for the guests' segments. We would suggest that communication is essential between shop and customer describing the planned treatment to the cake in future to prevent similar expensive disasters.
