One of those little places that you would just miss unless you knew it was there.
Nice parking area and small picnic area. The marked trail visits some of the relics of the slate industry in a small scale quarry now shrouded by trees. Some of the signs etc are getting a bit tired but it is a really pleasant walk through the woods.
Beautiful and informative, really felt like a walk through proper nature and I liked the fact that it wasn't all gravel pathways and such - well worth a visit!
The park is under maintained and the fotpaths are still negotiated with care. It is located inside an old limestone quarry where they used to make Setts for paving roads or walkways. The lower short walk from the rough carpark could be described as wheelchair friendly but the longer walk up to the top of the old quarry workings is certainly not. It's a good walk with dogs which is mainly used by local people. In late spring and summer occasionally you can see Adders basking in the sun after their Winter hibernation, but this is a rare sighting and because of this children and dogs off lead need to be under careful supervision. It's a good place on a warm full moonlit night to see bats flying their aerobic displays, but care must be taken in the dark due to the uneven and poorly maintained footpaths, so take a good torch.
A small nature reserve on the outskirts of Waunfawr. Once the site of the Dudley Quarry Company it's been transformed into a quiet and tranquil area where nature has reasserted itself. A circular walk through the woods of the hillside site offers much of interest from the natural surroundings and remnants of it's industrial past.
This is a small but very full woods. Not for the faint hearted as the climbs are a little steep in places. Beware in the wet as the walk boards become slippery as the badly bruised wife will prove...so that's an extra star from me.
