Absolutely fantastic company. I turned up without booking in advance and although all the vehicles were pretty much booked, Donna managed to find some space in the bookings to enable me to move house. She is a real credit to the company. I’ve used Southern Self Drive many times over the years and they have always delivered a first rate service.

Efficient service and quite reasonable pricing, could I add two constructive criticisms: 1. The parking is outside on the side of the road, which has v muddy pathway, should improve? 2. Fueling system on site is strange, with an "empty return" policy is leant towards SSD often getting free fuel, if vehicles were collected full this would be remedied. That said I will return, nice staff.

Fantastic service from the team at SSD from easy booking, pick up and return. Car as expected in great condition and open on a Sunday morning for return a real bonus. Highly recommended.

Cowboy company. Fareham Branch. Wrongly charged me for fuel and 3 weeks waiting for refund without success. Repeatedly promised calls back but nothing. When I call they are 'mega busy and can't possibly deal with it now'. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere more professional. They stated the tank was empty when I returned it and charged me to fill it up. That was a complete lie and after several calls and wasted time they admit that it was a mistake. Not only this but I rented a van and before reaching my destination it had a flat tyre. AA said it was such a small puncture that it 'probably happened' (due to how flat it was in how long I'd had it) before collection. I paid 100 to repair and returned the van on time. I called the following day out of courtesy to explain what one tyre was a different brand. I got no 'thank you' or even 'what a nightmare' but a very defensive and abrasive 'yeah well that's your responsibility, nothing to do with us'. For thanks, I got charged for fuel and then lied to about the tank being empty. They have no out of hours support number for help. Currenty impossible to get my money back. Not worth the headache. Go somewhere else that actually cares about its customers. This branch doesn't seem to know what Customer Service is.

I recently helped my friends move house and was looking for an inexpensive, reliable van hire in my area when I stumbled upon this company. I was a little sceptical at first as I have only rented from main rental bodies before but my mind was quickly put at ease. I spoke with a member of staff a few days before I planned to collect and she was incredibly helpful. I then called again on the day and accidentally got through to the Portsmouth team rather than Fareham. I was made aware by this after a lengthy chat about vans, cover and documents. The woman happily passed the details onto the team in fareham without hesitation! I turned up before my time slot expecting another lengthy process but it was very quick and prompt, again the lady who I spoke with was very clear and helpful. She showed me the van I was going to use which was absolutely perfect and very clean. Upon getting back I met a different member of staff, again who seemed lovely. She looked over the van and quickly gave me back the deposit I had put down with no issues. She also gave me all required document before I left. Honestly such a painless journey start to finish and I was very happy throughout. I would definitely recommend this company and would encourage others to do the same!
