Thrifty Car and Van Rental Burnley

Very bad experience with the burnley branch. Staff are not helpful and the manager with the glasses is the worst. Enterprise far more efficient and easy going.

Dear Sir/Madam, I was given a BMW 3 Series as a courtesy car, this was arranged by Direct Line insurance. The car was dropped off at my home address, around 9.30am on Friday 4th September. The lady handing over the car advised me that marks were present on BOTH front wheels, however she had noted this on her computer. I asked if I had to sign anything but due to the current COVID pandemic, this was not necessary. The vehicle was collected from my home address at 8.30am on Monday 14th September and the very same lady advised that the passenger front wheel had some marks which were not present at drop off. I reiterated the conversation we had on the Friday 4th September and she looked sheepish and advised 'not to worry, she would sort it out'. She then left with the vehicle. This morning (Tuesday 15th September), I can see there is a pending transaction for £49.00 to Thrifty which has NOT been authorised by myself as I haven't caused the damage. I have called the Burnley branch this morning who advised there is nothing that can be done, I have been charged and that is that. The man on the phone advised I had caused damage to the Offside front wheel - the drivers side and told me to email customer services. This is the opposite side to which the lady claimed?! How can this be? I am completely disgusted at the way Thrifty have used the Covid / no signature required situation to con me into paying for a wheel which I haven't damaged and in affect allowing somebody else who HAS caused the damage off scot free. The cost is irrelevant whether it be £50.00 or £500.00. It is the principle of the matter which is causing me a great deal of stress and anxiety. well what can i say when they give u the car, they walk around it really fast and dont check proper, but when ur giving the car back they are all over it look for the thinnest and finest of scratch. They charge a big deposit, and the cost keeps going up with mileage on some vehicles and having to pay separate reduced excess fees and they are genuinely grumpy staff. im not sure if this is the workload, but still that shouldnt be an excuse.
