Entrance onto the grand union Canal off the main Gumley Rd is via the small hard standing area on the north side of the bridge. Locals fishing this section of the canal use this for parking their vehicles so on match day's there is limited parking. entering the gate you have a choice of walking the towpath to the viaduct and Saddington tunnel or turn left at the gate and the path takes you to debdale wharf and on to Foxton locks. Narrow boat's are sometimes mooring at several spots along the path in both directions so be mindful of any ropes/ stakes that may be close to the towpath especialy in the late evening when the light is poorer. The original 1800s humpback brick bridge was demolished in the early 1970's for a concrete flat top. this was built to a lower humpback with steel rail sides to make it wider to stop long vehicles hitting the sides and grounding out also to slow traffic crossing so keeping the appearance of the original bridge.
