This is a great dog walking place but parking can be problematical. There are two car parks and on this occasion they were both nearly full. I usually arrive earlier than 10.00 am and have no trouble usually. Swithland Woods is literally by the car parks and is a fabulous place to walk, educate young people and just experience the outdoors. Loads of fab walks both in and extended beyond the woods are available. £1.00 for 3 hours or £2.00 for all day.
Carpark for about 30 cars, coins only paying machine, £1 for 3h or £2 for all day.
3h is enough to walk all around, may path walkable with a pushchair. Picnic area does have a bench with no table, and a polished log used as sitting and eating. Old pit and quarry are fenced up. Tiny stream at the beginning of the trail visited in September .
We were done in less than 3h, had picnic (not in the picnic area). Nice walk through the forest with kids.
Absolutely love the woods and I'm happy to pay for parking but I detest with a burning passion the predatory private parking enforcement companies like the one they use here. Nothing spoils arriving at a beauty spot like a bunch of threatening signs with outlandish PCN costs glaring you in the face. I hate that some of what I pay to park here goes to their greedy hands and I hope they consider changing their approach to parking management.
Reasonable number of spaces. It's a pay and display and cheaper than the other car parks in the Bradgate Park area. The Car Park owners have a reputation for handing out fines. Recommend you check the time on your ticket as the machine is 10 minutes out, meaning you've lost 10 mins before you start.
Lovely place to walk we stayed all day if you walk a little further the wildlife selection is impressive
