Fantastic, kind vets who always go above and beyond when it comes to the card of our treasured pets, we cannot recommend them enough. Absolutely 5 stars from us
Brilliant vets....phoned up today with an emergency, we were seen within 15 mins. Thank you Charles
TLDR: Missed major illnesses with our pup leading too much further illness and needing to be placed in emergency care in Birmingham. Charles Castle head of practice let himself down and his colleagues down with his truly disgraceful response and care.
The service we received from Beech House contrasted heavily from what we were expecting based on their other reviews. The receptionists we spoke to were lovely and we managed to get an appointment fairly quickly. After running a number of tests in which the vet couldn't find anything we were sent home with advice to follow. Our pup got progressively worse over the next few days until we had to take her to an emergency vets where she was put into the ICU to keep her with us. The vet who saw our pup from Beech House had missed 3 major issues, concerning her liver, heart and lungs even after running x-rays and ultrasounds. The other vets we saw said that it would have been impossible to miss these issues even on a primary inspection and did not understand how they were missed first time round. The guidance provided by the primary vet had not only misdiagnosed our pup (meaning she got sicker as she wasn't being treated appropriately for the correct illness) but also had advised us on a course of action that was directly poisoning our dog and making her significantly worse.
We were hesitant about our course of action, because after calling Beech House to update them on the situation, we spoke to a lovely woman called Helen who was extremely empathetic, understanding and apologetic and did say that the vet who had seen us had been brought in on short notice, and was not part of the permanent staff at Beech House. When I said that it wasn't her fault and that we were only getting in touch to alert them to possible negligence that would protect other dogs in their care, Helen went as far as to say that it was in part her fault because it is her responsibility to find replacement vets. This was a response we were not expecting and it showed another level of accountability and what's more kindness with our situation.
Next we were told we would hear back regarding our situation by the Friday, we then after chasing were told it would be Monday. We then heard nothing again until later in the week when we received a call from Charles Castle the principle of the practice. Charles didn't know why he was calling, didn't know our pets name or who we were, and frankly acted disgracefully. He was arrogant, unprepared, highly unprofessional, uninterested and least expectedly showed little to no care about how our pet was. Any vet, especially the head of practice would show a certain level of empathy and express some concern that these huge issues were missed by a vet within their practice. These weren't small issues, they were life threatening and any vet by nature would feel something when hearing this, they would ask questions about the situation to see what the vets could do to ensure it didn't happen again. He did not. He didn't apologise, he didn't take any responsibility, he didn't want to hear what we had to say. In fact all he had to say was that if they investigated everything that went wrong at the vets they wouldn't have any vets left to hire and that they are very busy which could explain the situation. He then said that it's probable we misheard the vets guidance and diagnosis (the vet from Beech House sent our pup away with a stomach pain injection, she had pneumonia, a liver shunt and a heart murmur, it would have been very difficult for us to mishear and forget these things). The difference between Helen, other representatives of Beech House and himself was stark and we were genuinely taken a back by how awful he was in this situation.
Next we went to Towcester Vets and every person we interacted with was incredible, and went above and beyond to care for our pup. They even called out of hours off their own back to see how she was doing. My only recommendation would be that if Beech House vets are 'too busy' to care for pets appropriately, don't take the risk in using them.
Lovely people, looked after all my pets for the last 30 years plus. Always helpful and willing to fit you in at short notice.
I had to have my little dog put to sleep on Monday 27th April.
The staff were absolutely amazing, they were so compassionate and went the extra mile during this very difficult time to make it possible for us to be with him as he gently went to sleep.
Thank you.
