Nicely located behind the Shopping centre, this nature reserve and trail is just the anecdote needed when the other halves are busy shopping. Surprising vistas at many of the lookout platforms around the trail provide a glimpse of the rich wild habitat here. Your dog will need to be on a lead so not so nice for them, particularly if they like running around.
Gorgeous location, ideal for kids and adults. Went mini beasting and pond dipping. You can hire pedal boats. Excellent information centre with activities for the little ones and bird watching for the big kids. Well worth a visit. Located behind the shopping centre.
Nature in harmony with the modern.
The Nene Wetlands Nature Reserve can be find near the Rushden Lakes retail park. There is a lake that you can peddle a swan or if your feeling more energetic you can go out in a canoe, but if like me your looking for a more leisurely activity you can take a walk in the nature trail. It follows the lake around and children can have fun trying to find all the carved wooden animals. At the far side behind the new cinema complex is a small area with climbing frames, spiders, slides and a few other things.
This is a fun place to visit when dry, if wet take walking boots or wellington boots
Great to see that the wetlands have been opened up (slightly) and that there is access. The quality of the site still needs work and the wildlife trust need to do more in the way of interpretation. The whole thing mixed with shopping doesn't really work and the amount of congestion and access the whole site has caused has made more problems and produced more pollution. Worth a walk around if your feeling the urge but better places locally to go nature spotting.
Great centre. Loved the walk around the lake to burn off the meal we had, well it burnt off part of it 😉 Will probably come back and try the other walks around the lakes. The ice cream in the centre is really good! And there is no massive queue like the van outside.
