I have loved every part of my time at SIN. Its been the best place for me during a levels, with teachers who are invested in you and really care. You can see the effort put in to provide amazing resources and help you achieve.
I would recommend coming here- it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Really good at pushing good students, although you should make sure you actually care about your subjects before applying. The school is targeted at overachievers who love their field.
As a student of Sir Isaac currently I felt it important that I give a review on the school for future students. I left high school wanting to come to Sir Isaac but now I'm having mixed feelings toward the school. My high school grades that I left weren't terrible I left with 5,6,7s and got told by the Sir Isaac staff that I'd be suited to the school. However, after nearly a term at the school I'm feeling very different.
The school itself is focused on more science based subjects with maths and computer science and its partnership with Jane Austen to do other subjects like english and geography works but I do not believe is very effective.
I myself believe that sir Isaac's way of teaching is effective however it requires a large amount of self discipline and no life. The work load itself is huge! There' homework each week which teachers don't always remind you about and post on the google classroom to upload your homework too. Also the amount of homework set in some subjects its enough to take 2-3 days of four hour sessions.
The amount of homework set within a lesson was reported by most of the students to other teachers to be reviewed. We were told to finish homework in a different coloured pen to show how long it takes. the amount was reviewed and students were told that the subject department was told to reduce the amount of homework for the students to do. this has not been done and now students are feeling left and consider it a waste of time to report it again.
The school spending that I can work out is mostly devoted to computer science and science. The science departments teaching is honestly the best teaching out of the whole school. Honestly the science departments teaching is effective and students are actually able to learn other than other lessons.
Another issue of the whole system is it's partnerships with Jane Austen. the teachers at the school treat the students like children and don't explain to students in an adult way. Also the delivery map at Jane Austen is not updated so you can review your work months ahead like Sir Isaac. Similarly, Jane Austen teachers don't upload homework reminders at all to the google classroom.
Overall, the only time I'd recommend coming to Sir Isaac is if you passed your GCSES with a minimum of 8s in the subjects you want to take. As well as, being able to teach yourself and do independent research for the whole of your A-level because the teachers are not very good at teaching and you will have to Learn by yourself. Also if you want any form of life outside the school do not com here because period 6s will be necessary as you will not have 50% or more in ALL of your homework.
This is a general view from the POV of a few students. what we believe and what we want future students to know.
Many Thanks.
Would not recommend unless you are 100% guaranteed to get an A*. Anyone below will be forced to stay in school after hours, and get treated like a child.
I would not recommend coming to this sixth form unless you enjoy being treated like a child, enjoy being put down by teachers if you’re not A* material, and if you want to be given more work than what is achievable in a week, and being forced to stay behind for hours after the college day is over to complete it if you can’t fit it all in. To be honest, I wish I had gone elsewhere. I came to this sixth form instead of a high school one because I thought I’d be treated more like an adult, but I was never expecting it to be as bad as it is. Worst 2 years of my life so far.
