Matalan

I cannot explain how poorly run this branch of Matalan is. The shop floor staff were polite with my pjama enquiry but after joining the line to pay the farce began. "Anyone paying cash?" This was the mantra for the checkout operatives who stood with their clearface visors on looking stressed. I'm thinking they could've reworded it by saying "we have a pdq error, please stand forward if you're paying by cash". No apology offered for the wait and the expression of satisfaction when someone did want to pay cash. Nic on customer service desk offered to take payment on the 4 items I had but warned "it might not work!" To add further to their dishaveled customer service I had the misfortune of asking for gift receipts. Woozers what an inconvenience to ask for a gift receipt on 3 items of clothing 9 days before Christmas!!! Again Nic requested individual payment for each item and said "I'll try, it might not work". On failure to produce a gift receipt on my first item she called for help and I was awarded for my patience by having the lovely (I use this term loosely) Nicola taking over the processing of my sale. She hunted through the till screen for the magical/mystery gift receipt but to no avail. This lady lacks the basis customer service skills required, she parroted policy that the gift voucher only covered the 28days from this purchase timeline. I reiterated my need as one item was going to Lincoln to be gifted and she threw out many reasons why it'll be fine without a gift receipt. "Exchange or credit will be fine with just the item" but shot me down with my request that they may request a refund by saying "refund would have to go back on the purchase visa card". I thought Matelan was a decent retailer but hadn't visited for some time...after this visit I won't be visiting again in a hurry. Matalan: get your training dept to the Sutton in Ashfield store and retrain the cashiers to be more customer focused and polite.

5 jobs gone thanks to self-service kiosks. Only 1 human being in a job on the tills.

Just popped in to do some last minute Christmas shopping and Josh on the tills was great! Friendly and engaging with ourselves and customers, an asset to the team! The shop as always was clean and had exactly what we wanted! I always use the store and plan to keep on doing so as the menswear section is one of the only decent places to shop 🙂

Refused toilet to a small child in tears , rude I front of her. Left shopping and will never return.
