St. Giles' Barbers

I have been going to St Giles Barbers for a couple of years now. It is conveniently located at the city centre and offers excellent service at affordable prices (they also do discounts for students). The hairdressers are always proffesional and pleasant to talk to...I would highly recommend it!

This review is for my most recent trip only* I have used St Giles barbers for a while now and have been very happy with their service. Today was the first time I had the third barber that works there (I believe there are 3) and I am not impressed in the slightest. I have attached pictures of "before" and "after" as well as a sample image of what I wanted my hair to look like. Funnily enough, this was the first time I have ever shown a barber a picture of the style I want. My hair was much closer to the style I wanted before the actual cut and I had even planned to dye it to match the style exactly this weekend, but not anymore. The cut started well, my longer hair on top was clipped up, sides shaved and blended, seemed ok. For the top we decided to cut a small amount off to tidy up. This started ok, but I think with every snip the scissors just cut more and more off, rather than just going over the bits that were missed on the first pass. It started to look short, but then came the fringe. It was already in a V shape and rather than starting in the middle to sort this out, more from the sides were hacked away! I just thought I can't put it back on, so may as well let them finish and see how it turns out. When asked how it was, I tried my best to ruffle it and see if it looked vaguely any good or how I might have it, sighed and just said it will have to do, paid and left. It will be a good few months before my hair grows back to how I wanted it now and I would be reluctant to go again if I am to have it cut by the same barber again. To add to the owner response - there was a clear picture and also ask that not much be taken off, yet the barber hacked away anyway. I will NOT be spending my money coming here again for it to be rectified in a few months when it grows back. If I come back, it will be for the poor mess to be rectified and then leaving. If the service is finally satisfactory, then I will resume my normal cuts at this barber, but fully avoiding the person that did this cut.

Been there twice. Really enjoyed their service and nice little chat. Alex is friendly, passionate and professional. When the POS machine doesn't work, they even offer that I can pay next time. Will definitely visit again.

I am rating 4 stars just because i am going there allready for one year, i am going every time in the barbershop with my head up because i know i will get the most pleasant haircut i can get in oxford, the barbers are so professionall and i really like the feeling when i am in there, but, just this time something weird happened, i think it's a new barber there at the middle chair (first time i'm seeing him there) who cut my hair today. The haircut was a mediocre one, not extremely bad, for sure not as good as the other barbers from there used me to, but what mesmerized me was a thing that happened for the first time in my life, at the end of the haircut the barber was asking me to give him a gratuity, and when i was asking him what is that even means, he said that he was asking for tips. I gave him one pound just because i wasn't expecting something like that, but i know how i felt myself about that, i don't think it's ok and i hope that the guys in there will surely do something about it !
