Addition are referenced in my other review... In error we overpaid about £4,500 in VAT. We were convinced we were due this as a refund from HMRC. However, Slaters advised us not to claim it as it would be due to the customer. We went against Slaters advice and made the claim with HMRC ourselves, even telling them we were in dispute with our accountant on this issue. We explain this in writing and HMRC called us as well (call recorded) and HMRC totally agreed with us and refunded us the money.

I have been working with Mark at Slaters for 7 years now. Fantastic accountant to work with, very knowledable and helpful. I would recommend Slaters Accountants to anybody running their own business, regardless of how big or small.

We were given Slaters Accountant's name from our previous accountant who was looking to concentrate on other things. We found them to be very friendly and approachable and easy to talk to with regards's to business matters. The help that has been given regards to pensions, sage accounts issues, making tax digital etc was invaluable, any issues that we have great or small are dealt with without hesitation. I would recommend them to anybody, especially Mark who's a wizard on sage matters. Thanks. Andy

It is of concern that Slaters have a Google AdWords campaign running to attract more clients. Please be aware that we started to submit our accounts to slaters last year in September and they did not manage to complete them (we are only a small company) until the very last day of January, which is the last possible day they could be filed. During this time we emailed them to inform they needed to be completed because we were planning on making a mortgage application, however this still didn't spur them into action. We also fell below the VAT threshold and Slaters did not alert us to this. This meant that for an extended period we were paying VAT when we didn't need to. This has cost us possibly 10k +. The only reason this wasn't substantially more is that we queried it. However, Slaters do not feel they did anything wrong here because falling below the VAT threshold doesn't matter in a 'normal' situation. We pay Slaters a lot of money and we believed that we were paying for a service that understood 'our' business rather than basing their decisions on what is normal. How difficult can it be to alert someone that they have fallen below the VAT threshold? It would have taken a few seconds and saved us overpaying a vast amount of additional tax. This is not the type of service I believed we were signing up for. There are additional areas of concern I will post shortly.
