Poor Advice from Pharmacist - Turned away in shame without any valid medical or pharmaceutical justification I am currently half way through my treatment as recommended by my Doctor for a fungal infection on my hands after a week and a half of using Daktarin 2% W/W cream (available over the counter cream). Due to COVID-19, I am having to wash my hands regularly as part of the COVID-19 guidance; as a result, I ran out of the cream after frequent hand washing and reapplying of the cream and went back to this pharmacy for some more cream as the infection had cleared on one hand but is still clearing on the other hand and that the cream is still actively working for me. I even was told by this pharmacist to use the cream 7-10 days even after the infection had cleared when I initially bought the cream. I walked into the pharmacy today to get more of the same cream to complete my treatment and explained the above only to be told "we can't sell you the cream as you need to go to your doctor and ask for a more stronger cream treatment," even after reiterating the above to the pharmacist a few times over including his own advice about using the cream 7-10 days after the infection had cleared. I strongly felt that I was given the wrong advice by this pharmacist so to prove this, I phoned a well known local pharmacy who said the following: "There is no valid medical or pharmaceutical reason for turning you away by the pharmacist in question. You say that the cream has worked on one of your hands and is still working on the other and that you have only used the cream for a week and a half which is midway through your treatment with this particular cream. The instructions for the Daktarin 2% W/W cream clearly state to use the cream 7 days after all signs of the infection have gone away, but you have just simply ran out of cream by washing your hands regularly as part of the COVID-19 guidance. Therefore, there is no valid justification for you being referred back to your GP or being refused further treatment of Daktarin 2% W/W cream at this time."
