It has been a week since I returned my car rental, and 5-days since Avis/Budget debited my account for additional charges - yet I have still not received any notification or documentation from Avis/Budget for the car tire damages I supposedly made (on my 30mile round trip from airport to home which was mostly on the M25). I had to call them to ask why they took money from my account. I know times are tough for many businesses, but it seems incredibly opportunistic for Avis/Budget to find 'damage' on the one occasion no one from the company was there to do a walk around with me when I returned the car. I've rented from this company frequently and have never had problems until now. This is incredibly disappointing. I can only think that because I used Avios points for the rental that they felt they needed to make some cash back another way, so GBP175 debited from a customers account with no notice to them will do the trick. Disgraceful.

Horrible experience - book with another company, Enterprise & Thrifty are far better options. Booked vehicle in mid-Nov, to pay at location. Presented Four MELA017 vouchers issued from Avis head office, to the total value of £70. It was clearly stated at the bottom of each voucher that multiple vouchers CAN be used at once for a booking. Also spoke to reservations team before booking, and this was confirmed. Got to the rental station, and surprise-suprise(!) The rental station had their own rules. They would only accept one voucher. Despite pointing out the obvious in their own terms and conditions, the agent declined to accept my other 3 vouchers (which were soon expiring). First he said the computer system would only allow him to process one voucher, then he later said the only way he could process the remaining vouchers, was to call head office - and guess what, they were closed because it is Sunday afternoon. He then said I could pick up the vehicle and get head office to add the vouchers the next day - which I foolishly believed. The next day, after numerous phone calls, it was clear this wasn't possible. And I was told that prices can only be adjusted AFTER the rental ends. Also did I mention the vehicle had a strong lingering odour of cigarette smoke in the cabin, which actually irritated my throat, as I don't smoke. This and the misinformation I've received, from the start, made me decide to end the rental, as I am not willing to deal with a deceptive company/staff members. I informed customer services the next morning, less than 24hrs after I picked up the vehicle, that I will be returning the vehicle and ending my rental agreement. I would return it after work, but because I could only get there after 2pm, it would be counted as day-2. I returned the vehicle, 5.30pm on the Monday, and the staff had gone home. Used the dropoff box. The next day, 12pm, I call post-rental team to check if vehicle had been processed as returned, and they said...NO. They opened at 8am, and by midday, the vehicle I dropped off the previous evening had not been checked or processed. Unbelievable. Therefore they could not assist me, and if anything, they were quite condescending in the way they spoke to me, needlessly explaining things I didn't ask about, while avoiding my actual question. I have been charged for 7 days usage, totalling £140, even though I returned the vehicle after 24hrs. I have £55 worth of avis vouchers they refused to accept. I ended up taking public transportation from Gatwick back to East London, during covid-lockdown, because of a very rubbish company. Very bad customer service (in-branch & call-centre), smelly cheap vehicles, Contradictory rules & staff. I am an Avis-Preferred member, but I will now delete my membership & never hire from them again. Much better & cost-effective options elsewhere.

Robin from Avis at Gatwick saved our holiday! After being let down last minute by another car hire company she did her upmost to get us on the road.

Easy to find from the south terminal. Pick-up was fairly painless although it took around 10 minutes before anyone emerged from the back office to deal with people waiting at the counters. Drop-off was easy apart from the fact the signage for the spots could be greatly improved as in the dark it wasn't so easy to find. No issues with false damage claims and the car was as advertised.

Rent car from them, and we arrive to collect we Heard different price and different stop off time, which is change completly our holiday! Never again. Do not recomend!
