The picturesque village of Clovelly is privately owned and has been associated with just three families since the middle of the 13th century, with the estate presently being run by the Clovelly Estate Company. The village main street is not accessible by motor vehicles and this lack of vehicular access has led to all deliveries being made by sledge.
Clovelly was solely an agricultural parish with no harbour until the late 16th century, when the stone pier was erected, thus providing the safe harbour that turned Clovelly into a busy fishing village.
Very pretty little harbour, quaint village with no cars allowed. All owned by one estate, which is cashing in on the tourist industry bug time. Lively walk along the pebbly shore, interesting rock formations and once you get away from the tourist area, unspoilt. Go early: it gets very full after 11am. Recommend eating at the harbour pub, but you must book or you won't get in that day. Steep walk, not suitable for elderly or infirm. Land rover service can take you diwn to the harbour from the car park and take you back for a fee
Had not visited for 50 years so it was great to see what little changes there were. Best is the visitor centre at the top and donkey farm. The landowners are still ferrying visitors back up to the top as well!
Absolutely blown away with this place it is such a beautiful little village with alot of history. Stunning views and stunning harbour. Well worth a visit
