FAST are fabulous! Cannot recommend highly enough the service the team there give when it comes to injury guidance and rehabilitation. They are honest, practical and really know their stuff. I've been using them for about 6 years and wouldn't go anywhere else!
Had an appointment with Richard a few weeks back to sort out some back issues. He was very knowledgeable and helpful and provided me with some useful exercises to do to sort the issue out. I highly recommend Richard and this company to others looking for a sports therapist. They are also very generous offering this service for free through #ReciprocatingKindness campaign.
Really glad I was recommended Fit Again Sports Therapy through a friend. Rich was so helpful and friendly during our 30 min video call and despite the current lock down situation and him not being able to examine a running related injury I have, he gave me confidence that if I follow his advice I should make a good recovery. I've come away feeling much better and have lots of strengthening exercises to work on. Couldn't recommend F.A.S.T highly enough and it's incredibly generous their offering of free appointments for their #ReciprocatingKindness campaign.
Its May 7th 2016 and playing the game i love on a match day. An awkward bounce and i leap out of my goal, i lose my balance and come down on my left leg straight. My ankle gives way under me, shatters and dislocates.. i break my fib and tib too and if not for Air Ambulance, possibly lose my foot due to severity.
An operation later and i am told i will never play football again and my foot and leg is screwed and pinned. With that, its advised that I may need assistance of a crutch, with a limp, for many years due to the type of injury.
A couple of weeks after, Richard as a friend sent his regards and after hearing of my injury- offered me support for the both physical and mental trauma. He advised me to let the swelling and healing process take its course, then to come and see him. This left me with hope. I had always respected Richard's work as a physio when he did experience placements at local football clubs.
6 weeks on, i turn up at the clinic. Richard reads my notes, looks at the operation scars and instantly tells me- "We will have you walking again.."
Witihin 4 sessions, Richard had me exercising areas around the injury, keeping all other muscle groups active in order to be strong enough to be able to start a rehabilitation programme. With my NHS physio appointments not scheduled for 8-12 weeks, i know i need to feel i can do these things again and not waste muscle memory.
As soon as the plaster is off, i am back. We assess the area and work on movement and feeling. Its then i realise i can move my toes and with that, my ankle slightly. i then can find myself flex up and down my foot, extending my toes.. something i wasnt supposedly be able to do.
I am given several home exercise, but always told of the caution and the rest process. Rich is a proffesional, he gives you hope but wont jepodise the recover. A week after, im in a swimming pool. im moving the leg non weight baring in and out of the water- learning to sweep and pull my leg through and soon, i am weight baring on my leg.
Fast forward and i'm at the NHS appointment, i am walking, hoping and striding, mobility is back for me. Its not perfect and i know i cannot play football competitively, but a kick around in the garden is freedom with my daughter at that moment.
These days, i am able to run, walk long distances, dive around in goal and even have a little bit of competitive training as a coach.
To go from playing every week, to then having it all go away like that was heartbreaking. To be then told i had to retire and wouldnt be able to walk unaided again, I could have sunk. But Richard and his great coaching and treatment of me got me back to somewhere where i can be active, keep fit and join in again with things! The care, the kindness, the disipline and structure he put into my recovery is something that I can look at as being the most important moments of my life.
So glad to see him and his practise excell beyond the heights he truly deserves! Thank you Rich. We did it!
