The Bookcafe

There should be an option on here to choose no stars. Me, my partner, my 11 week old baby and my partners 86 year old grandma had visited belper yesterday for a look around the shops. Having drove past this cafe on the way into Belper, we thought it was a good idea to park up and call in for a few drinks and maybe food, as it looked quite nice. As we arrived, we were greeted by a lady who explained that due to COVID we would have to place our order and pay online (which was not a problem). We were then seated on one of the many tables available INSIDE. With it being around 11.30 and not ready for lunch YET we thought we would order drinks for all three of us. We ordered and paid for the drinks online, to our surprise we were then approached by another member of staff to be told that as we had not ordered any food we would have to take a seat outside. Baffled we questioned the reasoning for this, to be told that it gets really busy for lunch so we will need the table inside to accommodate for people buying food. Our intention was to purchase food once we were ready, “We will need your table for the busy lunch period so please can you go and sit outside” it was a cloudy, cold autumn day, clearly with a new baby and a 86 year old lady we did not expect to be asked to do this. We angrily took ourselves outside and sat on one of the 10 tables free (at this point we should have realised no one obviously visits the cafe and moved onto a more welcoming establishment but we had paid already). Our overly priced hot drinks arrived In take out cups, to fuel the fire , we were gobsmacked. We drank the tasteless drinks as fast as possible and walked off never to return again. If i can give anyone any advice do NOT visit this cafe, take your custom elsewhere as they clearly do not want any!!!

Easy to use click and collect service and food always amazing. Staff serve with a smile (great with deaf customers too,very understanding and patient)

First visit here. Booked table online on advance - 11:30am Sunday morning for breakfast. Four of us, including two young children. Waited at entrance while table was cleared. Same member of staff welcoming people and clearing the tables, so queue soon built up outside. Ordered food via the website (no table service available). 25 minutes later, no drinks had arrived. Asked if they were ready as kids thirsty. No. Waitress then came over to apologise and said they were very, very busy. Also told us there were no sausages left, could we have bacon instead, and that the order would take at least another 20 minutes. Decided to ask for refund and left at that point. Apologies from the member of staff.

We ordered a click and collect tea for two from Belper bookcafe this weekend and I can highly recommend it! A yummy selection of sandwiches, two scones with clotted cream and jam and three types of delicious cake.. all served with yes pigs teabags and two proper plates (which I'll return with thanks 😊) there was plenty for me, my husband and two small children and it made my lockdown birthday feel special. All collected on a Sunday too. Great stuff 👍

Visited last week, food was really poor. Waitress who greeted us was pleasant but the bloke who served our food was miserable with no customer service. We had wraps which were terrible, the chicken looked and tasted awful. Left most of it and just ate the chips. Waste of money.
