St James is a wonderful school and provides children with a safe place to be and one which is full of interest and enthusiasm. My children have met great friends, been taught by lovely teachers and have made good progress with their work. We feel genuinely lucky to have been part of the St James community. There is wide variety of extra-curricular activities and many opportunities are offered. Parents and children also benefit from the marvellous 'Cottage' next door which provides pre-schooling as well as breakfast and after school club - and the amazing holiday club. You get the feeling at both places that they are well managed and that children are genuinely liked and cared for.

St James is a really excellent school and this is evidenced by its two outstanding awards from Ofsted and the Diocese of Salisbury. It has beautiful grounds in a lovely part of the countryside and .these are fully and imaginatively used by the school and the children. St James is a church school that really lives out the Christian values and works hard to develop good links with the Church of England as well as the Methodist church locally. Children are encouraged to think for themselves and are regularly consulted about worship and through school council, about their community and learning. Their confidence and good manners are impressive, and their pride in their school is sincere and enthusiastic. If you are looking for an ideal school for your own child, you could not do better than St James.

St James' CE VC First School is very much a "hidden" gem. Hidden because it lies within the small village of Gaunts Common, which is not especially well-known. However, it is actually conveniently close to Wimborne and due to an excellent reputation, is attracting many pupils from outside its catchment area. My child was placed here from reception and has now completed almost 3 academic years. Although we are 5 miles away, I feel the daily drive is well-worth it, as what is more important than giving your child the best possible start in life? The school has a beautiful setting, with expansive grounds for sport and play. Leadership and teaching are fantastic and despite outstanding official inspection results, the school pushes for continuous academic improvement and adding to its already excellent facilities. They have a really nice play trail and recently added a wildlife pond and outdoor multi gym My child has had amazing sporting opportunities in both school time and at after school clubs (golf, archery, fencing, dodgeball, tennis, frisbee!) and the school welcomes help and participation from parents/carers. Most importantly, I really feel like my child and I are treated as individuals and can discuss any issues or ideas with the teachers or headteacher. I wish education had been like this when I was a child!
