Hathways Estate Agents

I purchased a property through Hathways recently and they were brilliant. They did a lot of work chasing things up, making enquiries on my behalf and they kept me informed every step of the way. I would recommend them highly as a fab local business and pleasant and kind people. Vicky in particular is very efficient and professional.

Hathways find us a house in Cwmbran but, on the day we handed the keys back to our previous residence of which we have proof we left it in showroom condition, Hathways did the following. I was driving a lorry with all of our possessions to Cwmbran only to be called by a Hathways agent ( male ), to be informed that the house we had agreed and paid referencing and a deposit for had fallen through. To add insult to injury, the ' agent ', went on to say " well I am going home in 15 minutes ", hardly a caring touch, maybe we could have stayed in a bus stop for all they cared. Eventually, a house was found that cost £70 pounds a month more, had negative gas and electric of which Hathways knew about but must have thought we were retarded to believe, specifically when another agent of theirs ( female ), could not light the boiler due to the utilities being in the red but also knew exactly how much we needed to shell out to put this right. Just for one more boot in the balls, the female agent declared we owed another £70 for the deposit. It is lucky the landlord of the premises took over the management of the property as we would not trust Hathways with a dead cat. Estate agents are the scum of the earth. and these are no different.

Dodged a bullet on this one! AVOID! Hathways policy is bizarre to begin with - 6 month tenancies only on a reoccurring basis if agreed upon with the agent or it becomes a 1 month rolling tenancy. So don't get comfortable in case they pull the plug! The agency reserve the right to visit the property quarterly to 'check' everything is ok. I have rented for many years and never have I had someone check up on me as if to suggest I may be 'misbehaving'. Anyway, we're in a position where location was necessary and due to limited market availability, we proceeded. Property 1 - After a successful viewing we proceeded to fill out the required forms. Began the process despite slow and very poor response times from the agency. Whilst browsing RightMove where we found the property, we discovered the listing had been removed. We contacted Hathways to ask why this was as we had completed the forms and not heard back. 2 days later, they email to say the property is no longer available as they were selling the property instead now. No apology whatsoever. We thought we'd look past this as this does happen with the market however the communication was shocking as we had found out through a 3rd party that we weren't going to be moving in after all. Property 2 - We found another place in the location we wanted. Hathways again. At this point we were hesitant because of our experience but again, due to limited availability, we proceeded. We completed a whole new set of forms for the property and sent them off. Silence again... Now I'm beginning to get frustrated. No communication. So we checked the property listing on RightMove. Believe it or not - the listing had been removed! Honestly could not believe it. We contacted Hathways and waited well over a day to receive a response saying the property was off the market! NO apologies for either of these situations. Terribly poor communication and lack of professionalism. Incredibly disrespectful in their handling of the situation. Needless to say we will ensure to stay well away from this company. We found a property through a Competitor and completed the forms and deposit the same day. This competitor maintained constant communication with us the entire time. This is how it should be. Moving house is stressful enough at the best of times, this company will make you want to pull your hair out. AVOID.
