Tapa amanya, is a town in the volta region of Ghana and can be located in the biakoye district. Tapa in general, is a vast land of communities of people and these communities are sub divided into different areas. Some of which are; Tapa Amanya, Tapa Abotoase, Tapa Amanfrom, Tapa Beposo, Tapa Bompaso and many more and Tapa Abotoase is also found within the Tapa traditional area. Tapa Abotoase market used to be one of the biggest markets in the Volta region until its patronage has gone down recently. The name Abotoase came from an ancient tree called 'aboto'. This place was full of these 'aboto' trees so people used to trade under these trees because of the shade it provides for them. Aboto -ase is an Akan language which means 'under the aboto tree' and that is how the name abotoase came about. These trade continued for many years until the whole place was flooded by water and people could no longer trade there. The remains of these aboto trees can even be traced and found standing in the waters now. When the place was flooded, the market was shifted backwards since the water had occupied the place they used to meet and trade. The presence of the water made people whose occupation is mainly fishing to settle along the banks of the river. One thing am very sure of is that, if one wants natural tilapia or organic tilapia, it is this place that you can find some because they don't practice fish farming they only engage in fishing. The fish caught here are in their natural state and hence are very tasty. I am a native of Tapa Amanya and for that matter I know what am saying.
