Bonaventure Cemetery

One of the best cemeteries in the nation! It is beautiful and historic and full of History. It is so mystical and beautiful and creepy all rolled into one. You can feel the spirits roaming around in the cemetery. They have tours and even ghost tours in the cemetery. It's truly a Southern Delight. The people of Savannah love their living history and their dead history!

Cool cemetery! When entering to the right, there's a visitor's center to get a map and bathrooms. There's also parking near the river in the back of the cemetery. Halfway back to the right is Gracie. Most of the older graves are on the right side.

Travellers, there are so few cemeteries that equal the interest and beauty of Bonaventure. It is gorgeous and is located on a bluff over the wilmington river and the views of the river are gorgeous. The cemetery is the epitome of southern landscaping, live oak trees, magnolias, and dogwoods dripping with spanish moss. The azaleas were in bloom when we went so it was a spectacular floral display. The cemetery is quite large and many famous folks are buried there, and we went to pay our respects to the great songwriter, Johnny Mercer, whose family plot is in Bonaventure and he lays in repose there as well. This is worth the time and there is no lovelier place to stroll. Check it out. We recommend.

A hauntingly beautiful place! It's a gorgeous cemetery. I wish we had more time to see the whole graveyard.

We spent about two hours wandering around this beautiful & historic place. The history is head-spinning. The graves, mausoleums, the spanish moss covered trees are amazing. Take a walk around at first, then download the app for a self-guided tour. It's $5.00. This place is a wonderful way to spend an hour or two.
