Royal Hotel Tain

Run down, dirty and looks nothings like the picture, no COVID safety measures (the disinfectant bottle at the entrance is filled with water), and very unhelpful staff. Very expensive for what it is. The restaurant is closed and you get handed a leaflet of some local Indian take out instead. Breakfast is very unhygienic, in the midst of a pandemic every guest is touching bread slices in the bag to make some toasts... Now the worst part: I stayed there for business, got woken up in the middle of the night by BEDBUGS, did not sleep at all afterwards. I got 2 of them trapped in a glass as proof but the manager is still in denial and won’t call a professional. Now I need to boil all my stuff and I’m pretty sure he will rent the room (22) again to someone else tonight. Please avoid at all cost. These people should not be in business. Would give 0 stars if it was possible.

Lovely people , nothing is to much to ask , perfect service and very helpful. Love to back again

We stopped off for a coffee break on the way to John o Groats. First class and really quick service, and were given forms to fill out due to Covid. We were given a pot of coffee each and a full plate of shortbread. Would defo return.

Great service and comfortable stay in pleasant atmosphere.

I feel the hotel was a bit run down. Looking well on the photos, but in reality the mattress on a four poster bed was well worn out, the light above mirror in the bathroom wasn't working and I had to do my makeup by touch mostly - the room wasn't brightly lit either. Showerhead was falling off and same happened to the curtains. The hotel was mostly clean, but the remote we got was so sticky, we had to wash with baby wipes. Good location for NC500 though.
