Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences (RIMS) was surrounded by construction when we visited. That did not deter from the enjoyable and knowledgeable presentation that was given. Plenty of information on Marine life as well as conservation efforts to preserve for the future.

I did the "Dolphin trainer for a day" program at RIMS. It was the highlight of my trip to Roatan, and given how much I enjoyed the diving, it's saying quite a bit. My instructor Dante was friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. We started the day by walking around and meeting all the dolphins and their trainers. A couple trainers were taking their dolphins out into the open sea, so we tagged along with them. Dolphins drafting in the boat's wake was a pretty cool sight. We then studied anatomy (on a live dolphin), hand signs, and traded fish for some cool dolphin maneuvers. The most exciting part of the trainer program was initiating water behaviors (aka dolphin rides). I was able to get many dorsal fin and toe-push rides, the later being the most thrilling.
