I stayed here for six days and nights as part of a mission trip in support of Mission Lazarus. The cabins are very well built and maintained, contain electricity and hot water, and the mountain breezes keep the nights nice and cool. Keep an eye out for scorpions, but I only encountered a single one in our cabin the first night, and they seem more timid than the ones I'm used to back in Georgia. The Posada itself is amazing! It's an open-air wood frame dining hall with electricity, plenty of small tables and chairs, and a well-stocked fireplace at the far end surrounded by rocking chairs and with a TV mounted above it. We never used the TV while I was there, but it does work. The ladies in the Posada's kitchen did an amazing job all week maintaining our cabins and preparing our breakfast and dinner! Every meal was delicious and prepared with love. They kept the coffee pots filled, and if you haven't tried fresh single-source San Lazaro coffee, you're missing out. The views from the Posada are breathtaking. They have a beautiful tropical garden with exotic plants, flowers, and fruits, plus leafcutter ants marching around with bits of leaves here and there. The scenery of the surrounding mountains and valleys is so beautiful; it really impresses upon you the glory and power and goodness of God. The shop is cozy, rustic, and filled with quality craftmanship leather goods, clothing, and other assorted trinkets - and plenty of bags of San Lazaro coffee, of course! If you have an opportunity to visit this place, don't miss it. The people of Mission Lazarus are wonderful and will do their best to make sure you have a pleasant stay. They even have skilled doctors on hand in case of emergency (which I learned the hard way due to a bout of traveler's sickness!) I can't recommend Mission Lazarus enough for the amazing work they do with the communities they serve. Almost all of their employees are locals who have been empowered to make a difference in their community. Staying here, or even just purchasing from their online store, is a worthy investment towards breathing new life into the city of San Marcos de Colón, into Honduras, and into the world.
