Econo Rent a Car

DO NOT RENT FROM Econo Rental in La Ceiba We got to La Ceiba Econocar to rent a car, we had a reservation for 2 days for $40/day. When we arrived, they said they didn't have our reservation; but they had a car for $50/day. We said we would go around the corner to AVIS, so they said they would give us the $50/day car for $45/day. So we took the car. The car was new, 1 scratch on it already. We walked around the car and looked for more scratches (there weren't any) checked all the exterior things (antenna, lug nuts etc) all were fine. The tire well was missing an emergency triangle - they brought one out, the washer fluid was empty, so they filled it. We have rented cars many times from econocar in the past, so we have been through this quite a few times and know how to look for all the scratches. When we returned the car, they found a scratch underneath the car. Pictures prove you cannot visually see this scratch when looking at the car, it is highly likely the scratch was already on the car. We did not run our hands along the underside of the car (never having to do this before). Econocar has changed $64 for the "repair" of the scratch. However when we said we would stay all day and watch them repair it, they told us that they don't have paint and all cars get repaired in the capital city. When asked when the car was going to the capital to be repaired, they said end of March. So we asked when we could come back and verify the repair was complete. They said that even when it goes to get repaired there, they don't always send the same car back. So basically, they took $64 to make a repair, which you cannot verify was repaired, for damage that was likely already on the car and you cannot visually see. Wish I could post pictures. DO NOT RENT FROM ECONO!
