The Air Museum of Honduras is the only aeronautical museum and one of the most important in historical compilation of the Republic of Honduras. Administered by the Museo Museo del Aire de Honduras, an organization created in 2000 under the decree of the National Congress of Honduras, 1 with the purpose of recovering, restoring, investigating, studying and preserving the historical legacy of national aviation and motivating present and future Hondurans to enter this world of high technological development for the benefit of the whole society. The idea of creating the "Air Museum of Honduras" was born from the fifties, when the planes begin to be recovered, painted and transferred to what is today the club of officers of the FAH. The Honduran Air Force begins to store airplanes that it no longer uses, mainly those acquired in the 1930s, mostly motor-propelled specimens and propellers, monoplanes, biplanes, light aircraft and some reactors, acquired in the 1970s. In 1981, the exhibition was well received by the public who admired the historic airplanes and even some copies in good condition flew. Such was the case of the NA-16 devices, the Corsair and the AT-6 aircraft. Five years later, in 1986, representatives of the National Museum of Air and Space of the Smithsonian Institute of the United States of America, made the Honduran public aware through talks and conferences held at the Honduran Institute of Inter-American Culture-IHCI of the potential to have a museum of National aviation, so the initiative takes its first steps within the command and active personnel of the Honduran Air Force (FAH) who are involved to a great extent in founding and organizing the "Air Museum of Honduras." The second step was the willingness to donate 12 aircraft at the F.A.H. at the end of the 80s what determines the second firm stage for the organization of such an important project. Later, in June 2000, the first meeting with people formally delved into the project leads to the conclusion of organizing a “Pro-Museum of Air Committee”, all convened by the then Commander Colonel Gerardo E. Carvajal (QDDG), and with Participation of volunteers and other people interested in the conservation of the aeronautical historical heritage of the country. The committee presents and signs the document of the Constitution of the “Fundación Museo del Aíre de Honduras” on August 30, 2000, at the facilities of the Honduran Air Force headquarters at Toncontín Airport in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, M.D.C. The creation of the foundation has the legal instruments of: Legal Entity with registration No. 102-2002; and, the Decree issued by the sovereign National Congress of Honduras Under No. 144-2003. The organized foundation has twenty-two volunteer members, who mostly received museum training in 2003 from the Francisco Morazán National Pedagogical University (UPNFM).
Very unique aircraft and history of the 100 hour war displayed
For those of us who like the history, and specifically, of aviation, it is an excellent place. The displayed aircraft are a beauty, although yes, it would be good if they enabled the other three large aircraft so that one knows their interior, and at the same time, a plate centimeters from each ship to know its history.
It is highly recommended for all ages.
This is an impetuous place in the history of Honduran aviation, its spirit of flying and untamed
The very beautiful aircraft museum I invite you to go to know
