Copan Spanish School

Note that this school has now moved to a new location opposite the Hedman Alas bus station near the river. I spent four weeks at this school in January 2020 doing 2 hours of one on one tuition in the afternoons and homestay. This was my second experience with immersion Spanish, my first was at a well known school in Guatemala. I was very impressed with the modern curriculum, caliber of the teaching materials and the standard of tuition from all the teachers. They will customize the classes as you wish and are very flexible. My homestay was welcoming, clean, comfortable and the food was good. Copan Ruinas itself is a quaint cobbled town with some tourist infrastructure but not too much. I felt safe walking around alone and there are great walks out of town towards the ruins themselves on a dedicated concrete walkway and elsewhere. I enjoyed my days visiting the ruins and Macaw mountain. If you are a birder, you will have a great time. The only negative things I can think of are that the weather may be too hot and humid for some people in certain months such as April and May. The town is tranquilo with the exception of the gallos aka roosters. It took me a couple of nights before I figured out how to sleep through the crowing with ear plugs and white noise. I was a bit intimidated by traveling in Honduras alone but using Hedman Alas to travel between San Pedro Sula and Copan and staying in Copan helped me feel safe. In conclusion I would strongly recommend the school and the location. It was a great experience and good value.

I studied 1 week at the Copán Spanish School. My teacher Yarely was amazing. Very professional but also we had a lot of fun and interesting conversations about Honduras, it was a great way to learn about the country. The school has their own study materials for homework which I really liked. And Copan is a great place - with 1 week of studying and doing activities every day I still didn't have time to do a few things on my list. Finally my host family, Doña Tina and Jesus were so amazing - very inclusive (like inviting me to a family birthday party) and I always met new people while doing homework at the kitchen table so I had plenty of opportunities to practice my Spanish.

The classes include conversation practice about topics you actually want to talk about (and you'll find that your teachers are people you want to talk to!); grammar worksheets that are structured in a way that helps you remember the rules when speaking; reading, writing, and grammar homework that is fun and reinforces what you've learned in class (okay, maybe not the grammar homework, but the storybook and the writing assignments are fun!); and games and outings. I highly recommend Copán Spanish School for someone who wants to improve their Spanish quickly in an enjoyable and relaxed environment.

Founded, owned and run by three amazing women, this unique school is in a great central location and can offer you a full immersion Spanish learning experience at a very affordable price. They specialise in one-on-one teaching which will give you the absolute best academic experience and the teachers have many years experience and have created their own curriculum. They will place you with host families where you can practice your Spanish outside class time and they also arrange joint activities with other students, such as cooking classes and excursions to Copan's tourist sites. Dunia and Julia have been our Spanish teachers since the beginning of Copan Spanish School and we can highly recommend them. Copan is a delightful small town, where you will soon get to know many of the locals and they will look out for you; we have found Copan to be very safe and a great place to relax, sit in cafes, visit the Mayan Ruins and other local attractions and (or course) learn Spanish!
