The name of the municipality of San Luis, located northwest of the department of Comayagua, in central Honduras. The municipality owes its name to San Luis Gonzaga, an Italian Jesuit religious who was declared by Pope Benedict XIII as the patron saint of Youth. Its first settlers arrived between the years 1800 and 1812, regrouping in a place called El GUAPINOL. All were of Spanish and French descent. It acquired the category of municipality by resolution of the Presidency of the Republic of May 15, 1975.
