I’m an Expat, so there are definitely some parts of the experience that I am not used to. Generally I would say that having a baby here is safe. That said, I think that there is a culture here of giving money to staff to make your stay go smoothly. In our case, we were not aware of this and so they held our son several extra days and kept us waiting in the parking lot on discharge over 3 hours. So I guess my advise to those coming here is bring plenty of food and water for mom, and pay the ransom early....

Our birth experience here was somewhat traumatic. Of course with Covid restrictions in effects mother must proceed with delivery without the support of a partner or advocate present. This makes her particularly vulnerable to local staff that proceed with their treatments without consultation or consent of their patients. In our case, one of their treatments included Fundal pressure in second stage of labor (Kristeller maneuver). This is a practice that has been outlawed in the EU for the past 15 years because it does not actually speed up birth and it potentially causes shoulder injuries to the baby and tearing to the mother. We suffered in both respects. We are lucky to have everyone safe at home now.

You go to give birth, you end up in the emergency room, someone steals money from your wallet while you are in the emergency room. Be smarter than me don’t carry money around hospitals because you can’t definitely get out of the room.

Poor, and rude behavior. From 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., we waited for information about the operation, and of course we did not receive it. What do you say? The journey home takes us two hours, it is not easy to come and pay for fuel for one piece of information. The operation is (as we were immediately told) critical, and just imagine what it was like to wait in the sun for 13 hours in suspense. If the envelope was the one that was crucial, we could be told right away, we would have managed to do that as well. We hope to know soon how the patient is, and we advise KBC a little more professionalism and kindness. We are not animals, we are humans. Thanks.

In short, the first birth, a long and difficult one, but with this kind of staff, I have no words in short !!! Everyone from the first to the last employee in the maternity ward I met in these 3 days has only words of praise from me! ❤️🙂
